The Kids Mental Health Optimist Club of Canada

The Kids Mental Health Optimist Club of Canada began operation in 2015. Located in London Ontario, the KMHOCC is a specialty club, designed to serve optimist clubs across Southwestern Ontario, with the goal to eventually assist clubs across Canada. The purpose of the KMHOCC is to create a community of support for families by working with school, medical and community groups to better reach families in need.

The club supports programs that work to bridge the gap to care for families supporting young children with mental health issues:

  • Helping Hands Grant- providing schools with funds to develop mental health support programs
  • Mission Services summer day camps
  • Research for the PIPE program in partnership with the Mary J. Wright Child and Youth Development Clinic, Western University

The Kids Mental Health Optimist Club of Canada works in partnership with M.I. understanding to create a community of support, by increasing awareness, understanding and the importance of early intervention when it comes to children’s mental health. We strive to create a community of support for families struggling with childhood mental health, and decrease the stigma that keeps them from seeking help.
